Joining Forces Military Hiring Event Bridges the Gap between Veterans and Careers

 



The Fayetteville Military Hiring Event, held April 26 & 27, marked the second such event co-sponsored by The White House Joining Forces initiative to Hire Veterans, as well as the participating Command Groups and Transition Programs. The two-day event consisted of Interview Preparation with Orion´s Recruiters, briefings by Hiring Managers from each of the companies, and pre-arranged interviews. The event was covered by NBC17 and The Fayetteville Observeras well as in a blog post by Joining Forces Executive Director, Brad Cooper.

Orion hosted about 15 companies at the event, including Intel, Siemens, Honeywell, Bridgestone, Firestone Kellogg’s, and PNC Bank. These companies interviewed the more than 100 enlisted soldiers to officers in attendance. “Orion is pleased to be able to continue to present transitioning service members with great civilian career opportunities at these Military Hiring Events,” said Mike Starich, President of Orion, “and we look forward to connecting veterans and hiring managers at the remaining 2012 events.”

In attendance at the event was Jason Forrester, Special Assistant, Manpower and Reserve Affairs, Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Army. These events mark a shift in the transition process for many soldiers  in accordance with the VOW to Hire Heroes Act signed by President Obama on November 21, 2011, which requires most service members to participate in new and improved transition programs. Forrester recently spoke with the Fort Hood Sentinel about this saying, “There is no doubt that throughout the Army, from the highest levels of leadership through the ranks, we are seeing a change of how the Army is getting Soldiers ready to transition.” 

Marine Corps Staff Sergeant Andrew Seiden found the event to be very constructive. “This event was the best veterans’ assistance-type program I have ever seen.  This is the kind of benefit veterans need.  The Orion side was extremely pro-active and professional in getting me to the event and matching me to companies,” Seiden stated, “The companies were professional and eager to find matches.  The whole process was seamless from start to finish.” 

The remaining Joining Forces Military Hiring Events of 2012 will be held in Austin, TX, on June 10 & 11, Norfolk, VA, on August 19 & 20, Fort Hood, TX, on September 9 & 10, Camp Lejeune, NC, October 11 & 12, Raleigh, NC, on December 3 & 4, and Fort Campbell, KY, on December 6 & 7.

This Unique Hiring Event is NOT a Job Fair, and is Designed to Get You Hired

This event is a special Hiring Event co-sponsored by The White House Joining Forces initiative to Hire Veterans and the participating Command Groups.

Unlike a job fair where you may spend a day talking with several dozen employers without a single interview as a result, this event is designed to get you hired!

Day 1 of the Hiring Event will feature a full morning of small group Interview Preparation with Orion´s Recruiters, and an afternoon with briefings by Hiring Managers from each of the companies, to familiarize you with the interviewers, companies, and available positions.

On Day 2, you will have pre-arranged interviews directly with Hiring Managers for positions for which you are well-suited, and match your background, qualifications, and preferences.

Field Operations Contract Opportunity

This is an opportunity to be a part of a project that will change how we use and integrate technology into our business, personal, social lifestyles, as well as the environment around us.

The company is currently engaged in multiple projects that extend from its core business. In these roles you will work as part of a cross functional team of 6 - 10 members. Each person on the team will have specific responsibilities as well as shared collateral duties.

No egos, you must be a true team player and be flexible and willing to change to accommodate the project and what is needed for the team to accomplish its “mission.” The project length is 6 - 12 months, with the potential to be extended. The timeline for the project will vary between 40 hour work weeks and 60-75 hour “high operational tempo” weeks. Project work will be focused regionally with the possibility of nationwide travel.

Position Description:

  • The project length is 6 - 12 months, and you’ll work both as an individual contributor and as a team member.
  • Positions are based in Seattle, San Diego, Norfolk, Atlanta, Dallas, Las Vegas, Chicago, New York City, and Boston.
  • This is a high travel position conducting field work and data collection through multiple locations within the U.S.
  • You will work as a Field Operations Specialist in various capacities as part of a cross-functional project team. Each person on the team will have specific individual responsibilities, as well as shared collateral duties.
  • Work/travel related expenses are covered by the company.  Approved out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed.
  • Hours of work per week will vary depending on work load.  Some weeks will be 40 hours, Mon - Fri.
  • “High operational tempo” weeks will be 60 - 75 hours including weekend work.
  • Schedules will vary with 2-3 weeks of “high op tempo”, followed by 1-2 weeks of 40 hour, Mon - Fri.

Position Requirements:

  • Former military with honorable discharge.
  • Clean driving record (No DUIs or more than 2 tickets in the last 3 years).
  • Good credit record (must have a credit card) and no criminal history.
  • Possess a Valid Driver’s License and either posses, or have the ability to obtain, a Passport.
  • Physically able to walk 10-15 miles daily, and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Capable and willing to do high travel, and easily able to get in and out of airports.
  • Detail oriented in completing routine and repetitive work. Meticulous attention to detail. 
  • Competent and confident in using computers and electronic devices.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to provide feedback that is clear and concise.
  • Must be flexible and capable of adapting to a changing environment.

Honeywell U.S. Army Integrated Logistics Support Service Program

 



 

Orion is currently recruiting for a variety of logistics positions for Honeywell to fulfill the U.S. Army’s Integrated Logistics Support Service Program. Under the contract, Honeywell is managing global inventory, maintenance, and operations for three Army Field Support Brigades.

We are seeking soldiers with Supply MOSs to fill many positions including Property Book Team Chief, Master Supply Technician, Contract Hand Receipt Holder, Data Entry Tech, and Quality Assurance Operations.

You should be able to start before August 1st. Pay is highly competitive, and all positions are located in Afghanistan.

Positions & Requirements

Property Book Team Chief

  • At least ten (10) years of property management experience

  • Property Book Unit Supply-Enhanced (PBUSE) skills required

  • In-depth knowledge of supply program relationships, concepts, and methodologies pertaining to Supply / Property Book Accountability and supply areas of logistics operations required

  • Experience at the Division property book level required

  • U.S. Citizen and Secret level government clearance required

Supply Technician

  • Seven (7) years minimum of Property Book or related supply experience

  • Must have worked at a Battalion S4 NCOIC or higher level

  • U.S. Citizen and Secret level government clearance required.

  • Planner experience

  • Expertise in SME PBUSE

Contract Hand Receipt Holder

  • Five (5) or more years of experience in the field or a related area of property management

  • Knowledgeable and proficient in the use of Property Book Unit Supply Enhanced (PBUSE)

  • Knowledgeable and proficient in the use of the Logistics Support Activity (LOGSA) web site

Data Entry Tech

  • Administrative experience required

Quality Assurance Operations

  • Bachelor’s degree in an applied science, such as Business

  • Five (5) years of demonstrated experience working in the logistical field, or at least ten (10) years of program related experience

  • Must have experience with MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and working knowledge of Access database programs

  • Quality management or related discipline

  • Demonstrated proficiency in the evaluation of processes and controls, along with the ability to inspect or evaluate workforce performance to the process

  • Knowledge of Property Book Unit Supply Enhanced (PBUSE)

Salary will be between $20 - $24/hour plus overtime and shift differential depending on shift worked. You will also be eligible to earn a bonus. You can expect to earn $52K - $65K in total compensation in your first year of employment.
